Good morning and Happy Wednesday! The landscape of MLB has been really quiet as of late with the exception of some signings(one notable that has yet to be done: Carlos Correa). The Texas Rangers have been pretty quiet over the last month only signing Heaney to a 2 year deal with incentives for a potential third year. But in recent "I ain't got no" Rangers news for you, the Rangers instead sign Nathan Eovaldi to a 2 year deal with an option for a third based off of incentives(similar to Heaney deal). So the big question I want to look at is What's Chris Young doing?
I know many of you know that I am a rambunctious Rangers fan and if I could write about the Rangers everyday I would. You also know that I stuck with Jon Daniels much of the time as his tenure of the GM of the Rangers. However, I will eat crow when I need to eat it and in this case, I am eating crow. What about Chris Young now is making me eat the crow? For one, he is continuing to prove that pitching is something that this team continues to need. His rebuilt rotation is built of all veterans and he has said and continued to say: He's tired of losing! Pitching and outfield help is what this team needed and pitching is what they got. What's Chris Young doing that is different than JD? Reports through some inside the organization have said that CY is very persistent and very much won't take NO for an answer if he has his sights set on something. That's the difference between CY and JD. Many inside the organization claim JD would NEVER be this consistent. Will this lead to a World Series in Texas? We'll see! But one thing is for sure CY is not going to take no for an answer. What about the outfield options for Texas to potentially consider: there's one name on the list that I would be calling and continue to call until again you got your way? That name is: Adam Duvall! If Chris Young is really set on competing next year this name is a name of a former World Series winning outfielder with the Atlanta Braves. The core of the guys that CY have been putting together are a mix of guys with playoff and World Series experience. Look at what has been added over two years: Semien- playoff experience, Seager- World Series champ, Jacob DeGrom- playoff experience, Andrew Heaney- playoff experience, Jake Odorizzi- playoff experience, Nathan Eovaldi- World Series champ, Jon Gray- playoff experience, etc. Do you see what Chris Young is doing? He's building a team that could potentially win a World Series in three years.
With all of this being said, are you happy with what Chris Young is doing? What would you like to see him do different? This is your chance to armchair GM here! Until next time, we'll keep an eye and ear out as to the next Rangers move!
