Good morning and Happy Wacky Wednesday Y'all! With all that is going on in the world here lately I thought I would give you some sports Wisdom. Good news! The NFL is in full swing and some top names are already off the board. However, a trade that happened between the Houston Texans and the Arizona Cardinals is what I want to discuss and spread my wisdom amongst you fans.
So on Day 1 of the NFL season officially we saw one of the most mind boggling trades I have ever seen in my life. Okay I have to admit I've seen some really Wacky trades y'all. This one tops them all. The Houston Texans sent DeAndre Hopkins and a 2020 fourth round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for RB David Johnson, a second round 2020 pick, and a 2021 fourth round pick. Jimmy The K say what? Yes, you read that right! So why did the Texans trade Hopkins? Many sources close to the situation say that Hopkins and coach Bill O'Brien were not on the best of terms. This according to sources close to the situation stems from a comment O'Brien made about Aaron Hernandez. The coach and GM of the Texans had a conversation with Hopkins saying and I quote: "The last time I had to have a conversation with a player like this was Aaron Hernandez and you see how he ended up". I can see both sides of the coin here. Why one might ask? Here is the reason to me why a coach should not be a GM in an organization. You get to wear too many hats and sometimes those hats can warp your thinking. It's kind of like being a Doctor and a medical director(watch New Amsterdam if you don't believe me). Wearing too many hats can and often times leads to you making boneheaded decisions. However, on Hopkins side you have to understand your coach is trying to compare you to a convict for a reason. What that reason was? To get the best out of you that he possibly can.
So did the Texans get anything really in return? They got David Johnson who may not be the best running back in the NFL but he is sure the hay better than what the Texans had last year. Here's why I think the Texans made this move other than the obvious reason of the rift in the organization. First you have Deshaun Watson as your quarterback and now you add David Johnson who should sure up your spot at running back. What next? Houston trades up to draft Ceedee Lamb. What can Ceedee do? He can do a lot of the same stuff Hopkins did and then you draft a wideout of the future and can use the other talent you have on the team to get over the hump.
Well that is this week's installment of Wacky Wednesday Wisdom! As you can see the Houston Texans may have made a bone-headed decision. But in the long run it might just work out in their favor.
