Wacky Wednesday Wisdom

Good morning and Happy Wacky Wednesday Y'all! With this week being the debut of the new XFL I think it would be wise to go over some of the pros and cons of the new football league. So with that being said let's get started on this Wacky Wednesday.

This was the week that has been anticipated since really midway through the NFL season and that is the debut of the new XFL football league. Eight new teams all ranging from east coast to west coast: Houston Roughnecks, Dallas Renegades, DC Defenders, St. Louis Battlehawks, Tampa Bay Vipers, New York Guardians, Los Angeles Wildcats, and the Seattle Dragons. But as with any new league there was some pros and cons.

Some of the pros of the XFL: the new kickoffs(in this league the players can't leave until the receiving team has caught the ball), the fact the league is being transparent(you can hear the replay booth upstairs and them relaying the information to the referees), the doing away with the extra point after a touchdown and having the opportunity of going for one point from the two yard line, two points from the five yard line, or three points from the ten yard line this allows a team that is technically down 12 points in the final stages of the game to come back and tie the game. I like the fact of the player interviews(this is also a con of mine so stay tuned). This is totally different than the Vince McMahon XFL league that came out in the early 2000's. Why? Because he has already stated that he is going to let his President and football people handle the league(Oliver Luck is pretty good at owning and operating organizations, just ask people in Houston where I believe he owns their soccer team).

Now for some of the cons of this new league: the coaches being mic'ed to me is really over-doing it in my honest opinion. This is a fear I have for the league other coaches can not only hear the plays you are calling but get an idea of what you are running before you even run it. This to me is like the sign stealing thing in Houston someone will ultimately say that it is cheating and find a way to "screw" the game and the sport in general. Something else I am NOT completely fond of is the player interviews. Say what? You just said that was a pro of yours and if you read after that I also said it was a con and here's why: because the players that are being interviewed are not always making a positive impact on the game. Quarterback fumbles the football and a mic is in his face asking what just happened? Do you expect him to be all sunshine and roses during the interview? You got this con blasted by many parents who actually had to see if they were faster than the "dump" button employee at ABC. While I absolutely love the fact that the league is trying to be transparent let's not interview someone who just had a play that impacted his team negatively being interviewed.

Lastly, I want to remind you all that while you think it is the XFL's fault for their players cussing and dropping F bombs on live television it is absolutely the networks job to "dump" those F bombs. As someone that is in the business and knows what the F bomb can get you fined, you as fans of the XFL should not be blasting the league for those F bombs but instead demanding the networks hire employees who are held responsible and listen to the broadcasts to know when to dump the F bomb.

Well that is this weeks Wacky Wednesday Wisdom. As you can see I see there is many pros and cons of the XFL. As with any new league there is going to be growing

pains and kinks that need to be worked out, but overall I have so much promise for this league. What are your expectations?
